Eight items you should buy second hand
In the UK, September is also known as Second Hand September. This whole month is dedicated to encouraging people to shop secondhand the whole month. This campaign is run by Oxfam, which is an organization that focuses on alleviating global poverty.
In honor of this month, we also want to join the movement and encourage people to shop secondhand this month. Not sure what items are worth shopping secondhand? Our team has compiled a list of items that are worth shopping secondhand at thrift stores in Independence MO and the Omaha, Nebraska metro.
BUTTON-UP SHIRTS
Whether you are a woman or a man, button-ups are considered an essential part of your wardrobe. This style can be worn to interviews or to a casual night out. Do not waste your money ordering one online. Head to a thrift store, and there you can find ones for half the price.
JEANS
Did you know that it takes 1,800 gallons of water to make one pair of jeans? Do not let all that water go to waste, instead thrift your jeans at your local thrift store. Thrift stores always have tons of jeans ranging from skinny, flared, boot cut to wide-legged.
T-SHIRTS
Alongside jeans, t-shirts also take a lot of water to make. It takes 2,700 liters of water to make one single t-shirt. Shopping for your t-shirts secondhand can help decrease the demand for new t-shirts and help save the planet.
LEATHER JACKETS
One piece of clothing that is always in style is a leather jacket. Instead of purchasing a new one, consider thrifting one instead. Thrift stores have leather jackets that are vintage or fairly new. Plus, the leather will already be broken into.
HOODIES AND SWEATERS
Fall and winter are hoodie and sweater seasons. You can find cozy and high-quality hoodies and sweaters at your local thrift. You might even get lucky and a vintage hoodie of your favorite sports team. One thrifting tip is to check all clothing sections, like the men's section.
KIDS CLOTHES
If you want to save money on your kids' clothes, then you should buy their clothes secondhand. Kids outgrow their clothes super fast. The last thing you want is to end up buying expensive clothes that they will only wear once. Thrift stores Independence MO locations have tons of kids' clothes ranging from newborns to pre-teens.
BOOKS
Do you enjoy reading and are looking for a new book? Thrift a book. Thrift stores always get books for all ages and tastes. Who knows, you might even find a book you cannot find anywhere else.
KITCHENWARE
Moving to a new place can be expensive. You can save some money by thrifting for your kitchenware. Thrift stores have a section of dishes, bowls, silverware, mugs, glassware, pots, pans and even bakeware.
