This decorative Hagoita paddle features a three-dimensional "Oshie" padded cloth collage of the Fuji Musume, or Wisteria Maiden, a celebrated character from classical Kabuki dance. The figure is meticulously constructed using layered silk and brocade fabrics stuffed with cotton to create a high-relief effect, accented with delicate hand-painted facial features and artificial wisteria blossoms. Traditionally gifted to young girls for their first New Year, these paddles serve as protective talismans intended to "bat away" misfortune and ensure healthy growth.
