Antique Chainmail Pot Scrubber Metal Mesh Kitchen Scraper Patent 1885 Primitive

Regular price $14.99

Antique Chainmail Pot Scrubber
Steel and Iron Kitchen Scraper
American, Late 19th Century

This antique kitchen primitive is a chainmail pot scrubber featuring a flexible mesh of interlocking metal rings attached to a solid metal handle. These tools were essential in 19th-century kitchens for cleaning cast iron cookware and copper pots without damaging the metal surface. The handle bears a partially legible patent date from October 1885, identifying it as a genuine piece of Victorian-era domestic hardware.

• Construction: Interlocking metal rings (chainmail) attached to a flared metal plate with rivets
• Handle: Looped metal handle designed for hanging storage by the hearth or sink
• Markings: Stamped patent date "PAT OCT 13 85" visible on the handle spine
• Dimensions: Approximately 8.75" total length; mesh width approx. 4" (ruler visible in photos)

Condition: Good antique condition with heavy, natural patina and surface oxidation throughout consistent with age and moisture exposure. The chainmail mesh is largely intact and remains flexible. The handle and plate show surface pitting but are structurally solid. No major breaks or missing sections in the ring mesh.
