Cast Iron and Wood
Late 19th to Early 20th Century
This antique sad iron features a heavy cast iron body with a detachable arched wooden handle, a design popularized in the late 19th century to protect users from the heat of the iron base. The base is a pointed double-ended style used for pressing clothes after being heated on a stove. A size "2" is embossed on the upper surface of the iron body.

• Detachable wooden handle with primitive metal latch mechanism
• Size "2" identification mark embossed on base
• Dimensions: approximately 6.5" L x 3.5" W x 5" H
Condition: Antique condition with significant surface oxidation and rust throughout the cast iron base consistent with age. The wooden handle shows expected wear, surface scuffing, and a darkened patina but remains structurally intact. The latch mechanism has been tested and is functional. No cracks or structural breaks in the cast iron body.
