About Us

We’re not your average thrift store. Thrift World is all about turning second-hand goods into first-rate finds—while making a real impact on the planet and our community. Since opening our doors in 1996 in Omaha, NE, we’ve grown from one shop into an 8-store thrifting empire spanning 3 states, with an export business and a thriving e-commerce store. (Yeah, we’ve been busy.)But we’re more than just a place to score vintage gems and killer deals. Every item you find at Thrift World helps us support local non-profit partners, create jobs, and keep perfectly good clothes and household items out of landfills. Think of us as treasure hunters with a mission—one thrifted item at a time.

Thrift World Business Model:

Thrift World began operations in 1996 in Omaha, NE. We now have 8 retail store locations spanning 3 states, an export business, and an e-commerce store. We plan to continue growing our retail and online store presence while increasing awareness and support for our non-profit partners, diverting more waste, and creating more local jobs.

IMPACT

According to the EPA, 13.1 million tons of textiles are trashed in the U.S. each year. The average person in the U.S. throws away approximately 70 pounds of clothing and textiles per year. While statistics show approximately 50% of this material could be re-used or recycled, only 15% or 2 million tons are recovered for re-use or recycling. This material is not biodegradable and takes up valuable space in landfills. Thrift World diverts approximately 2.5 million pounds per year of this waste through deployment of its business model.
