Vintage Wayang Golek Puppet Lot
Arjuna & Srikandi Characters
This is a lot of two vintage handcrafted Wayang Golek rod puppets from Indonesia, representing the characters Arjuna and Srikandi from Hindu epic literature. These traditional puppets are intricately detailed, with hand-carved and painted wooden heads, torsos, and arms, and are dressed in ornate batik and beaded costumes. Both retain their original descriptive tags in English and Indonesian.
• Features two prominent characters: Arjuna, a hero of the Pandawa Lima, and his wife Srikandi.
• Intricate craftsmanship includes articulated arms controlled by attached wooden rods.
• Wayang Golek is a traditional form of Sundanese puppet theatre and a recognized UNESCO Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Condition: Used, in good vintage condition for their age. The larger Arjuna puppet stands on its original base. The smaller Srikandi puppet has a detached main wooden handle, which is included but needs to be re-affixed. There is minor age-related wear, such as small scuffs and light fading, consistent with display pieces. Please review all photos for details.
