Antique Stoneware Jug Crock Salt Glaze Albany Slip Interior 10" 19th Century
Unmarked
Stoneware Jug with Albany Slip Interior
American Primitive, Late 19th to Early 20th Century
This antique stoneware jug features a classic cylindrical form with a tapered shoulder and a heavy, rolled rim. The exterior is finished in a warm tan salt glaze with natural speckling, while the interior is lined with a dark brown Albany-type slip, a standard waterproofing method used by North American potteries in the 19th century. Visible throwing ridges on the interior and concentric marks on the base attest to its hand-turned production on a potter's wheel.
• Hand-turned stoneware construction with salt-glazed exterior
• Dark brown Albany slip-glazed interior for liquid retention
• Heavy rolled rim and flat, unglazed base
• Dimensions: 10" tall with a 6" base diameter
Condition: Fair to good antique condition. The structural integrity of the main body is solid; however, there are several prominent chips along the top edge of the rim as highlighted in the detail photos. The surface exhibits age-appropriate wear, including minor pitting, firing glaze pops, and light staining. No structural hairlines or vertical cracks were observed.
