Composition & Cloth Baby Doll
Composition and Fabric Doll
Early 20th Century, Circa 1920s-1930s
This early 20th-century baby doll features a molded composition head with sculpted curls, composition limbs, and a stuffed cloth torso housing an internal mechanical crier. The doll is designed with weighted sleep eyes that open and close with movement, reflecting the classic manufacturing style of American and European mama dolls produced during the interwar period.
• Molded composition head with painted hair, molded curls, and facial detailing
• Jointed composition arms and lower legs attached to a firmly stuffed cloth body
• Weighted sleep eye mechanism that opens and closes smoothly when tilted
• Measures approximately 17 inches in length and 8 inches wide across the torso
Condition: Heavy antique wear consistent with age and extensive play. Composition exhibits pronounced crazing, finish loss, and structural cracking on the legs, arms, and chin, with chipping on the nose tip. Both hands have broken and missing fingers with exposed composite substrate. Cloth torso shows noticeable surface staining, dust accumulation, and seam strain. This item has not been tested and is sold with no guarantees regarding the internal crier mechanism.
