Thrift World is a retail thrift store company that promotes recycling and re-use of used clothing, accessories, and other household goods in partnership with non-profit organizations.
Thrift World Business Model:
Thrift World began operations in 1996 in Omaha, NE. We now have 6 retail store locations spanning 3 states, an export business, and an e-commerce store. We plan to continue growing our retail and online store presence while increasing awareness and support for our non-profit partners, diverting more waste, and creating more local jobs.
According to the EPA, 13.1 million tons of textiles are trashed in the U.S. each year. The average person in the U.S. throws away approximately 70 pounds of clothing and textiles per year. While statistics show approximately 50% of this material could be re-used or recycled, only 15% or 2 million tons are recovered for re-use or recycling. This material is not biodegradable and takes up valuable space in landfills. Thrift World diverts approximately 2.5 million pounds per year of this waste through deployment of its business model.
